Sutton Acoustic Guitar Club

A thriving Sutton Coldfield musicians’ club which has given a stage to novice acoustic guitarists and some international stars will hold a demonstration in a marquee in The Parade on Saturday July 12 between 1pm and 1.45pm.

Three years ago Sutton Acoustic Guitar Club, which met at Sutton Sailing Club, was facing an uncertain future after its founder, ex-policeman Maurice Dolphin, decided to step down after seven years at the helm.
But a new committee was formed, and the club held monthly meetings, first at Streetly Sports Club, then at The Drake’s Drum in Great Barr and now at Bromford Social Club in Erdington.

Over the years the club has hosted performances by the likes of Trio Gitano, the late Eric Roche, Gordon Giltrap and one of Chet Atkins’ favourite guitarists, Nashville-based Richard Smith.

A number of local players, including Sutton Blues Collective founder Paul Cowley, have credited the club with giving them the confidence to perform.
