Tickets are now on sale for Midsummer Music, a Sutton Festival Of Arts concert featuring Sutton Coldfield Orchestra, the Vaughan Singers and Four Oaks Cluster Choir.

The three groups will join together for the show at Sutton Town Hall on Friday July 11 at 7.30pm.
Representing the area since 1975, Sutton Coldfield Orchestra performs roughly five to six concerts each year in a variety of local venues, and with a number of different conductors.

One or two members who were in their first ever concert still play! The orchestra has grown over the past few years, with a number of new members. This concert will be conducted by Helen Rudeforth, and will include items such as Britten’s Soirees Musicales, Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture and excerpts from Les Miserables.

The Vaughan Singers have been performing in the area for many years, and their membership has grown significantly in the last three years. Their current director is Jane Ware, and membership stands at around 50. They perform in a variety of venues - and will be appearing at the Town Hall again on Sunday November 9.

Four Oaks Cluster Choir is made up of pupils from local schools, and covers an age range of nine to 13. Now in its fourth year, the group has gone from strength to strength, this year being selected to represent the area in BBC Choir Of The Year competition. They perform widely in the area, including venues such as Lichfield Cathedral, Lichfield Garrick Theatre, Adrian Boult Hall and in schools. The choir is directed by Richard Jeffries and Liz Birch.

The group’s programme on July 11 will include Karl Jenkins’ Benedictus, from The Armed Man, No Matter What by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Oklahoma by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

There will also be two joint items - the opening of Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Pomp & Circumstance March No 1 (Land Of Hope And Glory) by Elgar, to encourage a bit of audience participation.

For tickets, costing £8 (£6 concessions, £3 children) call 0121 464 8990 or visit www.suttoncoldfieldtownhall.co.uk
