The Highbury Youth Theatre contribution to the Sutton Festival of Arts will be by the ‘older and wiser’ members of the Group and will include a selection of comedy sketches created by the whole Youth Theatre during Group meeting Workshops.

These will cover subjects such as public transport, life with the Jedi, and short pieces written by the older members of the Youth Theatre, There will also be a very funny ‘Air Band Musical’. Leader Jane Mason has said that the public must look out for ‘The Goldfish’ Sketch (!)

They will perform in a marquee on The Parade from 12 noon to 12.45pm.

Throughout the Festival week, the whole Youth Theatre is also performing Their Scarves Were Red by Darren Vallier and Rob Sweetman, at Highbury Theatre in Sheffield Road, Boldmere at 7.30pm. This beautifully written and powerful play, set to dazzling music, is the story of two Liverpool fans who were at Sheffield on the day of the Hillsborough disaster. It is a very moving experience, which will have the audiences both laughing and crying.

MP Andrew Mitchell is intending to see the production on Saturday evening, and will be meeting the Youth Theatre members in the afternoon.

The Youth Theatre meets every Sunday between 2.15pm and 4.15pm and is open to those aged between 14 and 18. All the facilities of the Theatre Centre are available to members.

HYT performs two Centre productions a year. Many members also appear in the main company productions. Membership is £6 per year plus £1 per session, which includes LAMDA exams, working alongside other Midland Theatres and access to all National Association of Youth Theatres’ Workshops.

For more information call Jane Mason 0121 378 1851. Visit www.highburytheatre.co.uk.  The box office number is 0121 373 2761.
